The Cowboy Church was founded in 1972 by Glen Smith, who was, at the time, a professional rodeo clown. For a number of years the Cowboy Church ministered to the bull riding and rodeo circuits. Harry Yates and Joanne Cash started the Nashville Cowboy Church in 1990 and the PBR was introduced in 1992; the Cowboy Church then really took off. Today there are over 5000 Cowboy Churches.
